COST249 Meeting in Coimbra, 17th-18th February 2000

PLACE

The COST249 meeting will be held at Instituto de Telecomunacações (IT) in the buiding of Dept. Electrical Engineering of University of Coimbra (DEE), which is located in a new University campus, named POLO II (Campus II). The room is the IT's meeting room in the 2nd floor in the middle tower. To get there enter trough south main entrance and walk according to the indicators. If you enter trough the north entrance (5th floor) go downstairs to 2nd floor.

HOW TO GET TO COIMBRA

The closest international airports are located in Lisbon (Lisboa) and Oporto (Porto), respectively 200Km and 120Km away from Coimbra. The Oporto airport is closer to Coimbra but not very close to the Oporto's railway station.

If you arrive in Lisbon airport, you can either take a taxi or a bus to the Oriente Railway Station (Gare do Oriente). If you arrive in Oporto, you should take a taxi to the Porto-Campanhã Railway Station.
There are daily trains connecting the three cities (Lisboa-Coimbra-Porto). You can see the timetables of the fast trains Lisboa-Coimbra-Porto and Porto-Coimbra-Lisboa.

In both cases you should exit in Coimbra-B railway station, where you can take a taxi or a train connection to the small Coimbra-A station in the city centre (this
connection is free of charges). On the left side of this Central station you can take a bus direct to the Polo II.

There are also daily buses connecting the three cities (Lisboa-Coimbra-Porto). You can see the schedules of the buses in Rede Expressos. The bus
stations are not located at the airports, so you will need to take either a taxi or a bus from the airport to the bus station.

At the Tourist Offices, you can get the free Agenda Cultural de Coimbra, informing you on Cultural events and containing a list of useful addresses and institutions.
Most restaurants and bars are open until 12 p.m.. Pubs usually close at 2.00 a.m. but discos continue until 4.00 a.m. or 6.00 a.m. Lunchtime usually goes from 12.00 to 3.00 p.m. and dinnertime ranges between 7.30 and 9.30 p.m.
Banks open at 8.30 in the morning and close at 3 p.m. (Monday through Friday).
Cards (10 trips) for public city-transport are for sale in most kiosks, as well as credifone-cards.
Public telephones uses almost only phone cards (credifone-cards). Prefix for international calls is 00. Here is a telephone directory.
